Hiring Players as Kennel Hands?
Started By
Now, this is a small idea, not fully developed and probably full of kinks to work out:
"Hiring" other players as kennel hands
It can be a feature that will allow a player to: Feed, trial, vaccinate, cure, and (possibly) train another players dog with out needing the dog transfered because the have access to their "employer's" supplies.
I thought of this while I was vaccinating my dogs o-o;;
I realized there were may issues that could happen and thought of things a kennel hand could NOT do:
retire, breed, spay/neuter dogs, transfer items/money/bones/dogs/etc., accept/reject stud requests, and use bones.

There can also be restrictions set:
~Players can only be a kennel hand for the day if the "kennel manager" logs in to pay them (Which could be done automatically if possible).
~Players can't get paid if the don't fulfill all their duties.
~The kennel manager can't give more than 5 jobs to a single kennel hand OR
~ The kennel manager can't assign more than 5 dogs to a single kennel hand to care for OR
The "kennel manager" and "kennel hand" can write up a contract to agree on (Which ever might be more effective on both ends if this is implemented)

Additional ideas to work in some how:
Volunteer Mode: A player can choose to volunteer at a kennel; when doing so, they do one task of their choice (Vaccinate, train, or feed)

I'm still trying to think of ways for this to work out; since it could help a lot of people (People with a lot of dogs and kennel/breeding partners) make their kennels more effective. :)

If you have any suggestions to add to prevent any problems or to make it more successful; feel free to post and I'll edit the ideas in.

I support, though it would probably take a lot of coding, and we might have some downtime, but i would TOTALLY like this.

No support.

1. Total. Nightmare. To Code.

2. There's always going to be that somebody that tries to cheat the system. Remember bones glitches, guys? And how people would spend false bones everywhere and it was a huuuuuuge hassle for admin to clean it all up. This could very well happen here. The system glitches and suddenly, an "employee" has access to their "employer's" bones or money or is able to access a feature the user doesn't want them to. Now THAT would be a problem nobody wants to happen.

3. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty darn competent about feeding, vaccinating, treating, etc. Ala even has a built-in vacation mode. Still want to use your TS while on vacation? Hire an account "babysitter."

This is really interesting. Coding would probably be a hassle, but I think it\'s a really good idea.

Setting it up so that certain designated accounts have \"Guest Access\" to your account, which only gives them a very limited abilities as to what they can do.

I would suggest the following:
- Able to train dogs on the account.
- Able to feed dogs on the account.
- Able to purchase items from Gnashers.
- Access to food, training/energy items, and companions in inventory.
- Able to trial dogs.
- Able to vaccinate dogs.
- Able to take dogs to the vet.

- Perhaps it would be possible to even designate which dogs certain employees had access to/could do anything with?

People with \"Guest\" or \"Employee\" access would not be able to do anything else. So:
- Unable to post in chatrooms, forums, scribbles or IMs.
- Only able to see Sick Dog automated messages.
- Unable to sell, retire, auction, spay/neuter, dock/crop or breed dogs.
- No access to the \"Give\" function.
- Inventory access limited to the previously mentioned items.
- No access to your shop or shop till.
- No access to your bank account.
- No access to your bones.
- Only able to purchase items from Gnashers.
- Unable to purchase dog slots.
- Unable to use TS on dogs on other accounts.
- Unable to alter dog information or add/remove items on dogs (other than the previously specified items).
- No access to your personal/account information, code, etc.

There could be a separate log for each/any Guest/Employee and everything they\'ve done, and perhaps a \"Notes\" area where they could leave you notes or comments while they\'re on your account.

There could also be separate \"levels\" -- perhaps what I suggested as the base level, but with options for certain users to have:
- Unlimited inventory access & able to add/remove other items on dogs.
- Able to purchase from any shop (or perhaps a checklist of which site shops they can purchase from, and if they can purchase from user shops).
- Able to spay/neuter, dock/crop, breed, retire, sell or auction dogs*.

*Again, perhaps which dogs these things could/couldn\'t be done with could be designated somehow by the actual account holder/kennel owner.

Perhaps the best way to handle the payment system would be to have it done manually. People could do it for free, or work out an employer/employee agreement of so much per day or per week. Failure to follow through on either end could be dealt with by moderators if the users can\'t work it out, the same as how item training and leasing services currently work on the site.

Total support!

Well, with the way I'm thinking it's set up; they can buy food, accessories and everything else; but even if it was meant to be for them, they can't transfer it and then they'd get in trouble for stealing; or attempting to anyway.

Thanks for the support :) <3
This would be a super cool and interactive way to earn money and learn about how the site works.

Major support.

Support. I feel like it would be helpful to both new players (to gain money and experience) and old players (skip tedious task of feeding/vaccinate).

It would really help new players avoid the mistakes we all make when we join a new game by getting to see how a well run kennel looks, which in the long run would solve a lot of the issues with newer players immediately buying and breeding low quality dogs to try and get money.

It's an interesting idea but I'm afraid for now I do *not* support.

Mostly because coding this would be a nightmare I'm sure, and there's more important bugs to fix/things to code first. Like a feed all button, etc etc.

03-27-2011 at 9:14 AM
I support :)

03-27-2011 at 3:46 AM
Ahh, alright. :)

03-27-2011 at 3:37 AM
Nope; they would only have access to the "kennel manager's" inventory, bank, and training sessions to complete their task(s). They can't transfer anything out from the "kennel manager's" supplies to prevent the possibility of theft.

If the limitation idea is no good, I have another idea that I'll edit in :3

Very nice idea, Shin.

My only question is: The kennel hand would log into the "manager's" account? I may have read it wrong, but that is how it popped into my mind.
And if the kennel hand already had two accounts, wouldn't that break the "no more than two accounts" rule? Eh, not sure.
Otherwise than that, the idea is very interesting and could be very helpful.

Though no more than 5 dogs to handle would be... eh. I'd want them to feed all 34 of my dogs! xD

Support :) Would certainly help new players out, too, considering it's an easy job for the money.

this is a pretty dang cool idea!
